BOTOX
  • What is Botulinum toxin type A?

Botulinum toxin is a popular injection that is used to temporarily paralyse the facial muscle, hence reducing or eliminating facial fine lines and wrinkles. The most commonly treated areas are forehead creases , frown lines and crow's feet near the eyes. Several other areas have also been treated such as thick jaw muscles , thick bands in the neck and lip lines.

At our clinic, we also carry the other types of injection including Botox, Dysport and Xeomin.

  • What can I use Botolinum toxin for?

Botulinum toxin can be used to:

    • Smooth forehead furrows, frown lines, crow's feet, lip lines and bunny lines
    • Diminish neck bands
    • Improve the appearance of skin dimpling of the chin
    • Lift the corners of the mouth
    • Soften a square jaw line
    • Correct a gummy smile
  • How much does an injection of Botulinum toxin cost?

The cost of botulinum toxin injections vary. It is based on factors, such as how advanced the fine lines and wrinkles are, how aggressively you want to treat the areas of concern and therefore the amount of product used.

A surgeon's cost may be based on the expertise and qualifications of the person performing the treatment, time and effort the treatment requires. When choosing a board-certified Plastic Surgeon for botulinum toxin, remember that the surgeon's experience and your comfort with him or her are just as important as the final cost of the procedure.

  • Who is a Botulinum toxin candidate?

Wrinkles can make you appear tired or even angry when you are not. One of the quickest and safest remedies to remove wrinkles is an injection of botulinum toxin type A. Smiling, frowning, squinting and even chewing—basically any facial movement—can eventually lead to one of the most common signs of aging – wrinkles.

Botulinum toxin can also be combined with other cosmetic skin procedures—such as fillers or lasers to further improve your results. This combination of therapies can even help to prevent the formation of new lines and wrinkles.

  • What is the downtime for Botulinum toxin injection?

There is no down time or recovery time for botulinum toxin injections. You may resume normal activities immediately. It will take a few days to a week for you to see the effects of the Botulinum toxin injection. The effects usually last 4-6 months. When the effects of the toxin fades, you will start to see slow return of the muscle function and the wrinkles.

  • How is Botulinum injection done?

Whilst injections of botulinum toxin may seem simple and relatively quick, it requires an experienced healthcare professional to perform. Under injection will lead to an absence of effect and over injection may lead to over-paralysis of that muscle or the surrounding muscle which may lead to unnatural facial expressions.

There are 43 muscles in your face and it's vital that the plastic surgeon who performs botulinum toxin injections understands and pinpoints the correct spots to optimize your treatment.

A very thin needle is used to inject small amounts of botulinum toxin into the specific muscle. By carefully choosing specific muscles, your plastic surgeon can selectively weakens only the wrinkle-producing muscles hence preserving your natural facial expressions. The number of injections you need will depend on your facial features and the extent of your wrinkles. Crow's feet, for example, usually demand two to three injections. Furrows above your brow could take five or more.

  • Who should I go to for my Botulinum toxin injections?

Choose a plastic surgeon you can trust. The decision to have botulinum toxin type A injections involves many choices. The first and most important is selecting a board-certified plastic surgeon you can trust who is a member of the Singapore Society of Plastic Surgeons (SAPS). SAPS member surgeons meet rigorous standards to be admitted to the society. Check out the SAPS website for a complete list of its members.
