BREAST

The procedures that we offer include breast augmentation, breast implant revision, breast lift or mastopexy, breast reduction, nipple reduction and fat transfer for breast augmentation.
  • Indications

Breast Augmentation, commonly referred to as a “boob job” by patients, involves using breast implants or fat transfer to increase the size of your breasts. This can be done to achieve a more rounded breast shape or improve natural breast size symmetry. This procedure can also restore breast volume after pregnancy or weight reduction. When fat from another part of the patient’s body is used to create an improved breast volume, the procedure is referred to as fat transfer breast augmentation.

Breast Implant Revision is a surgery done to replace old breast implants with new implants. During this, we also aim to improve the appearance of the breast. The indications for breast implant revision surgery include: desire for change in size of breast, pain from capsular contracture, concern about migration of implant or rupture of implant. Breast implant revision surgery is not a standard or routine procedure and needs to be tailored specifically to the patient’s goals and desires. Therefore, this surgery should be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon who is well-trained and experienced in all types of breast surgery, who will listen to the patient’s goals and desires and develop a specific plan to address all these problems during the surgery.

Breast lift (a.k.a Mastopexy), raises the breast by removing excess droopy skin and tightening the breast tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. This is often done in combination with a nipple reduction or areolar reduction to improve the aesthetics of the breast. A woman’s breast changes over time and loss of youthful shape and skin elasticity can result from pregnancy, weight loss, aging, gravity and heredity. In certain cases, a breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation to provide both a change in shape and size.

Breast Reduction (a.k.a. Eduction Mammoplasty), is a procedure to remove excess fat and breast tissue to achieve a breast size that is more harmonious with the body. It also reduces discomfort associated with macromastia (excessively large breasts). Macromastia can cause both physical and emotional distress. The weight of the breasts can cause shoulder pain, rash under the breasts, neck and back ache. Some patients are embarrassed and find it hard to find appropriate clothing and these problems can cause emotional distress. In certain cases, breast reduction is a medisave claimable procedure. • Will people be able to see my scar?

Surgical incisions for most breast procedures are strategically hidden under the breasts, in the axilla (armpit) or around the areolar. These scars should be only visible if someone has a very close look. Speak with your plastic surgeon today to find out more.

  • How long is the recovery?

As the procedure is limited to the chest area, you will be able to get out of bed within a day. There will be some bruising and swelling for 1-2 weeks. Most of the time, you will need to change your brassiere. We will recommend a medical grade brassiere during your recovery. Resorbable sutures are usually used so there is no need for removal of sutures.

  • When can I return to work?

You can return to work after 1 -2 weeks.

  • What are the risks?

Complications after breast enhancement surgery are rare; they can be devastating but more commonly are temporary.

Bleeding and infections are the commonest complications and these are usually prevented with meticulous hemostasis and antibiotics given during surgery. There can be potential loss of skin or tissue due to poor wound healing. Patients are advised to stop smoking before surgery.

Changes in nipple or breast sensation are expected and these are usually temporary.

There can be skin discoloration and permanent pigmentary changes as well as visible scars after surgery.

There is a possibility of breast contour irregularity and asymmetry which may require revision surgery. This is more common in secondary breast procedures.

  • Will my breast look natural?

The appearance and look of your breast is very subjective. Depending on the shape of implants and the size, different looks can be achieved ranging from the natural, subtle accentuation of curves to a “done” augmented look. There are also different types of implants which give a different feel. At AZATACA clinic, we have the Crisalix 3D breast simulation system which allows you to visualize how your breasts may appear after surgery. Make a consultation with us today to find out more.

  • Will I be asleep during the surgery?

Yes, the surgery will be done under sedation or full general anaesthesia.

  • How long will the procedure take?

Depending on what needs to be done, the procedure can take between 2-4 hours. Occasionally, the breast procedure can also be combined with liposuction or abdominoplasty procedures.
